POSTDOCTORAL POSITION IN STRUCTURAL AND FUNCTIONAL BIOLOGY

From: Juan A. Hermoso
Date: 7 May 2012 10:41

The groups leaded by Prof. Miguel A. De la Rosa and Dr. Irene Díaz-Moreno at the Scientific Research Centre "Isla de la Cartuja" (cicCartuja, Sevilla, Spain) and by Prof. Juan A. Hemoso at the Institute of Physical Chemistry "Rocasolano" (IQFR, Madrid, Spain) are seeking a highly motivated scientist, with a Ph.D. in Structural Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry or related field, wishing to carry out a postdoctoral research work on novel cytochrome c-centred protein signaling networks during programmed cell death in human and plant cells from the structural and functional point of view.

The ideal candidate should have a solid experience in all aspects of protein X-ray crystallography, including protein expression and purification, crystallization, structure determination and refinement. Experience also in molecular and cellular biology, as well as structure-based drug design will be an advantage.

The successful candidate will interact closely with two well-recognized teams, whose headquarters are located in Seville (www.ciccartuja.es) and Madrid (www.xtal.iqfr.csic.es/grupo/xjuan/), respectively. Therefore, the candidate will be expected to work across two sites, with the availability to travel a must - Seville and Madrid are connected by a high-speed train taking two hours and a half. Both groups employ a multidisciplinary approach based on techniques of molecular biology, cell biology, biophysics, biochemistry, protein crystallography, bioinformatics, MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance and Molecular Dynamics. Both groups have a strong expertise in dissecting detailed molecular mechanisms and collaborate externally with leading international research groups.

Interested candidates will be asked to apply for a European Postdoctoral fellowship* but will be offered a bridge contract starting October 2012.

Please contact at idiazmoreno@us.es or xjuan@iqfr.csic.es, no latter than June 15, 2012.
