Structural Biology PhD in Barcelona

We are seeking a highly motivated Ph.D. student to work on a project to determine the three-dimensional structure of yeast proteins and their complexes with other macromolecules (protein, DNA) by crystallography, followed by the analysis of the structural findings or testing of the hypothesis in yeast cells. The student will be expected to live in Barcelona (Spain) for some years, should be enthusiastic, collaborative yet independent, and creative. The project entails cloning, heterologous overexpression, purification, crystallization and structure determination by X-ray diffraction methods, as well as manipulation of yeast cells by biotechnology methods. In order to better characterise the proteins and their complexes, the project may need electron microscopy and/or biophysical and biochemical analysis.

Candidates should have a degree obtained less than three years ago in biology, biochemistry, pharmacy, and chemistry or related discipline. The candidate should have EU-citizenship and not have lived in Spain for more than 12 months within the last 3 years. Previous knowledge of crystallography, protein expression and purification and/or functional analysis in yeast would be an advantage.
