At the Buchmann Institute of Molecular Life Sciences (former Frankfurt Institute of Molecular Life Sciences; Goethe University Frankfurt/Main) there is an opening for a Post Doctoral Position (E13 TV-G-U, fulltime). The position is available from April 1, 2012, and the initial appointment is for 1 year, with an option of extension for up to three years. Consideration of applications will continue until the position is filled.
The newly installed working group performs research on large multifunctional protein complexes. In projects funded by the Volkswagen Foundation, the German Research Foundation and the CEF Adjunct Investigatorship Program, structural analysis will be performed on fatty acid synthases and polyketide synthases. The successful post-doc candidate should be experienced in collecting and processing low resolution X-ray data, and in performing hybrid method approaches for structure solution by e.g. integrating electron microscopic data obtained in collaboration.
The Buchmann Institute for Molecular Life Sciences (BMLS) is a dedicated research institute and the candidate will be able to spend about 80% of his/her time in self-determined research in structural biology, particularly in X-ray crystallography, as well as in presentation and publication of scientific achievements. Additional tasks and duties are (20% of time): Contribution and acceptance of responsibility in co-supervision of PhD students and undergraduates, support in general tasks and duties of the working group, maintenance of scientific instruments and computers, and contribution in teaching, supervision of practical courses and supervision of students.
The BMLS is located at the Riedberg campus in the north of Frankfurt/Main. The building with its labs, facilities and offices is brand-new and extremely well equipped. The campus harbors the life science faculties of the university, lecture and library buildings, and the Max-Planck-Institutes of Biophysics and Brain Research comprising all disciplines and methods of life sciences. At this campus, the successful candidate finds an encouraging and inspiring atmosphere.
The successful candidate will join a small lab which is currently moving from the Max-Planck-Institute of Biochemistry (www.biochem.mpg.de/oesterhelt/grininger) to the BMLS (http://www.fmls-institute.de), and will approximately grow to a size of 5 to 8 people within this year.
